The Iraqi national had allegedly targeted the family of Donald Trump as retaliation for the murder of the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in an American drone attack in Baghdad in 2020. "After the murder of Qasem, he was constantly saying that 'we must kill Ivanka to burn down the house of Trump, just as he burned down ours'", Entifadh Qanbar, a former deputy military attaché of the embassy of Iraq in Washington, told the Post. He further revealed that Al-Saadi had allegedly obtained maps and information about the residence of Ivanka Trump in Florida, while a second source confirmed the attack plan.

The threats on social media

Al-Saadi also published on X a photo of a map depicting the gated residential complex in Florida where Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner reside, in a mansion valued at 24 million dollars. The post was accompanied by a threatening message in Arabic, which stated among other things: "I tell the Americans to look at this picture and know that neither your palaces nor the Secret Service can protect you. We are already at the stage of surveillance and analysis. Our revenge is a matter of time."

According to information from the American Department of Justice (DoJ), Al-Saadi is considered a high-ranking figure in terror circles between Iraq and Iran. He was arrested in Turkey on May 15 and was extradited to the United States, where he faces charges for 18 attacks and attempted attacks in Europe and the US.

High-ranking operative

The American authorities claim that Mohammad Baqer Al-Saadi, 32 years old, constituted a high-ranking operative of terrorist networks with connections in Iran and Iraq. He was arrested in Turkey on May 15, while he was allegedly traveling toward Russia, and was subsequently extradited to the United States. According to the American Department of Justice (DoJ), he faces charges for 18 attacks and attempted attacks in Europe and the US. Among others, he is accused of the arson of a branch of the Bank of New York Mellon in Amsterdam, a knife attack against two Jews in London, but also shootings against the American consulate in Toronto. The federal authorities further report that he had planned or coordinated attacks against Jewish targets, such as a bombing attack at a synagogue in Liège of Belgium and the arson of a temple in Rotterdam.

The ties with Qasem Soleimani

According to experts who spoke to the New York Post, Al-Saadi maintained a close relationship with the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, while later he was also connected with his successor, General Esmail Qaani. The researcher of the New Lines Institute in Washington, Elizabeth Tsurkov, claimed that Al-Saadi continued to receive resources and support for his terrorist networks. She herself had been kidnapped in Baghdad in 2023 and was held hostage for more than 900 days by the organization Kataib Hezbollah, before being released in 2025.

The travel agency – "front"

According to the allegations, Al-Saadi used a travel agency for religious tourism as a cover for the planning and coordination of terrorist operations across the world. The former deputy military attaché of the Iraqi embassy in Washington, Entifadh Qanbar, claimed that Al-Saadi considered Soleimani a father figure after the death of his father, an Iranian brigadier general, in 2006. Although he grew up in Baghdad, he was later sent to Tehran, where he was trained by the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), before creating the travel agency that he allegedly used as an operational "front".
